Orchard commons eb

Glasgow is An Orchard Commons, delivered in partnership with The Orchard Project is working with local people to pick, preserve and distribute fruit across the city.

There is a massive wealth of free food in the city which we could well be making more of!

Throughout the project, we're running free community events supporting people to learn knowledge and skills related to fruit harvesting such as:

  • when fruit is ripe
  • picking with long pole pickers,
  • shaking fruit into a tarpaulin and,
  • hand picking

We are running a fair share model:

  • 1/3 of the fruit harvested will go to the pickers
  • 1/3 will go to the tree steward (you)
  • 1/3 will go to the wider community, including food pantries and larders, and for distribution and sharing at our Harvest Party on 19 September, which we sincerely hope you will join us at.

Can you help? Maybe you know of a tree we could pick or have one yourself? Could you help with picking, preserving or sorting fruit? Or even any other odd jobs that would be of help? - Please let us know through the survey below.
