Idea in a Nutshell
We would like to set up a community composting facility on the Ibrox Commons for local residents to be able to compost food waste, using hot composting techniques. This project comes in response to feedback from members of the community who would like to compost, but currently do not have access to facilities. In addition we would set up a cold composting system for garden waste on the Ibrox Commons, and expand Galgael’s food waste composting capacity.
Experience
Galgael has been working in the community for over 25 years and is well placed to deliver a project which engages with local community members. We have a track record of delivering projects which support people to reclaim agency and skills. A large part of Galgael’s work is empowering people to imagine, determine and make just futures that meet the needs of living well and sustainably, and a community composting project would enhance this remit. having gathered feedback from these people over the past 18 months, we are in a good position to deliver this project as much of the groundwork and relational work is already underway. We already have experience of running a hot composting system within Galgael for our kitchen food waste, which is working well, and can use our learning from this to set up the composting on the Ibrox Commons.
