Spotlight On: Calton Tea

Calton Tea Company was born out of a desire to bring people together and build a local brandthat can make the community proud. Glaswegians are very social, so why not have a cup of tea and a chat?
The Barras is a unique place. There’s not many places that have such a great blend of old and new, trendy and traditional and such a rich history. It’s also unique in that it brings people from all walks of life together and that is special. I like spending time here and I’m looking forward to getting a stall in the Barras and interacting with people over a cup of tea.

I have been working in Calton for about 7 years now and although the area struggles with issues like poverty, addiction and anti-social behaviour there’s good things happening too and I wouldn’t choose a different place for my business. I made the decision to name my company after the area as I want to promote it and encourage people to visit and know that Calton has a lot to offer and can have a positive impact in the community. I have met some great people here and I would like us all to build the brand together so that it reflects the community.
Calton Tea Company is a company that specialises in tea. We enjoy traditional teas such as good strong breakfast tea but we also like innovation. Let’s expand our palates and explore some lovely teas from Japan, China and other countries together. We’re currently in the process of finalising our first collection consisting of 7 different teas. We have teas that will suit most palates and age groups such as traditional breakfast tea, roasted green tea, and spicy chocolate chai. We’re also creating a blend to honour the Barras so keep an eye on our social media and website for more information about the launch and the collection.

Our society is always encouraging us to move faster, work harder and just keep going. Although that is necessary sometimes, I do think it’s important to take a step back, take a deep breath and relax. I find the ritual of making tea therapeutic. It’s a short moment that allows me to unwind and get some clarity. Rituals are important and tea making can be a nice ritual to incorporate whether you’re using a tea pot or tea bag.
It is estimated that 100 million cups of tea are consumed daily in the UK so why not include some Calton tea and support your local business and community?

We source teas from reputable sources as we want to sell teas that are ethical and of high quality. We would also like to put some of our profits back into the community to support good local initiatives.
We are always keen to collaborate with businesses, charities, organisations and the wider community in general. We are able to provide you with our tea if you would like to stock our products.
