The Community Fridge is a space where people can share surplus food that would otherwise go to landfill. We want to reduce carbon emissions, promote awareness of wasteful behaviour and engender a sense of community. Although it helps people struggling financially, it is not a food bank, it is not means-tested - there is no need for referrals, there is no eligibility criteria. The Community Fridge is not charity - it is all about SHARING - it highlights personal responsibility and allows people to have dignified access to food. Anyone can share food at the Fridge: We welcome donations of labelled, unopened packaged foods within their use-by dates and raw fruit and vegetables. To avoid issues with hygiene we can't accept home cooked/prepared food, cooked rice, raw meat, fish, chicken or seafood, bean sprouts, milk and eggs. We also have a clothes swap rack and an in-situ sewing machine!
